9. Give blood

Years ago I worked at a company where as a group everyone would regularly go and donate blood to the Red Cross.  At the time I did not weigh enough so I could never participate.  Like most people however I did not mind too much as the thought of volunteering to have someone poke a needle in me wasn’t at the top of my list of fun things to do.  Over the years however and after having been poked by several needles (between my two pregnancies etc…) I have often thought this is something I want to do…so once I exceed the 110lb threshold, which I suspect will happen sometime in the next five years, the upside to weight gain is that I can finally contribute to the blood bank.

As noble as this quest is, getting over 110lbs while training for a 1/2 Marathon and ‘cleansing’ on a regular basis might prove to be a challenge. The upside – no needles and a happy husband…..

I “used to” have the same problem but during blood shortages or a specific need for my blood type I was allowed to give a Pedi-Pint. I don’t know about Alberta, but in the U.S. this is an option. And since they’re taking less blood, less time with the needle in your arm 😉
