13. Donate time or money once a month to a charity – ONGOING

I’ve always had a heart when it comes to supporting charities, being involved in different causes and encouraging others to do the same. Apart from the annual monthly contributions and the organizations that I’ve supported for years I want to learn more about new organizations and what they are doing to make a difference in people’s lives. I look forward to featuring their links on this website and I invite you to join me in person through hands on participation or by way of donation to support some of these great causes. Also, if you have ones that you are passionate about I would love for you to share them with me.

JANUARY 2011

Here is a picture of the little girl we sponsored through Inca Link.  I look forward to involving my family and making her part of our lives.
It is amazing how quickly time flies by…. Fortunately each month I have my regular group of donations so at least the donations are flowing even when I don’t have any special ones lined up!

A few things to mention include;

  • Supporting our friends with a day of cleaning after their home was severely affected by the 100 year flood in Calgary in June 2013. Alistair was in the heart of downtown, a Captain at the firehall, being evacuated and evacuating people on the night of the big flooding in downtown Calgary. Here is Aleia (just after she shaved her head for her cancer fundraiser!) and  I in our gear helping clean and disinfect our friends kitchen.charity 2charity1
  • One other donation opportunities we were involved in, January 2013 was when our family participated with 11 other families in a 12 days of Christmas giving activity.  Our friends last Christmas had been experiencing a very challenging time with cancer treatments and surgeries and had their hearts were lifted when baskets started arriving on their doorstep over 12 days – starting with a partridge in a pear tree, so this year they decided to ‘pay it forward’ and contacted the Kids Cancer Care Foundation and found a perfect family to bless; little 3 year old Keagen was diagnosed with Leukaemia and this family was struggling both financially and emotionally. We all had so much fun shopping as a family and getting creative about our baskets. We were responsible for “Nine Ladies Dancing”.  Pictures of the family and little Kegan grinning from ear to ear were priceless. I am sure they enjoyed it as much as we did.

 In addition to making a donation, I accepted the ALS (called it LAS in video by mistake!!!) challenge from John Readwin. I am happy to donate money to help find a cure for this horrible disease. In turn I nominate Jody Simmer, Linda Buck and Lana McFadden!

December 2014 – We continued with the Advent Trees and did one for Aleia’s friend Austyn and my friend Carol. Loved putting them together and surprising them!

I continue to look for events and charities to support. Pass along any that are near and dear to your heart.

    Hey Carolyn,
    Someone just sent me a link to this charity and I love it! Might be worth looking into for one of your charities….

    Inca Link is a not for profit organization in Ecuador that was a dream my cousin Lisa and her husband Rich Brown put into action in March 2006. They have 6 project underway and hope to impact the 300 million youth in Latin America. It is a very dynamic organization with clear vision and lasting impacts in the lives of the people they work with.
    For the month of January 2011, I have decided to sponsor a child for 1 year through their program in Trujillo, Peru. I currently already have a child with World Vision, but understanding the poverty and destitute situations of so many of these children in developing countries a simple $32 is not a lot to give.

    Please consider joining me in my journey of charity over these next 5 years.
